Victory Michael, popularly known as Big Mike, is a Nigerian actor whose Nollywood career has gained fresh attention in 2026. His nomination for Best Actor (International) at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival marked his first award nomination and international recognition.
The recognition came for his performance in Unboxing Love, adding an important milestone to a career that began only recently. Before the nomination, Michael had already built credits across several Nigerian productions and developed experience through drama, comedy skits and auditions.
Victory Michael Early Life and Education
Victory Michael is also known by his full name, Ogechukwu Victory Michael. Public sources identify him as a Nigerian actor who was born and raised in Lagos, while his professional profile also lists filmmaking among his interests.
His interest in acting began during his secondary school years at Assemblies of God Bethel Seminary in Owerri, Imo State. He joined the school’s drama group and regularly participated in church drama productions, experiences that helped develop his interest in performance.
Michael later studied at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT). His journey into entertainment developed alongside an early interest in filmmaking, with the actor explaining that he started creating comedy skits with his brother before moving into more serious production work.
How Victory Michael Entered Nollywood
Michael did not immediately enter Nollywood through a major studio production. He first experimented with comedy and filmmaking, using an Android phone with his brother before progressing to DSLR cameras.
He eventually began attending auditions and pursuing acting professionally. His professional profile identifies 2024 as the point when he entered the Nollywood industry, after which his number of acting credits began to grow.
That early period gave Michael opportunities to work with several Nigerian production companies and online film platforms. His credits include projects associated with Uche Nancy Production, Global Crown TV, Hadassah Christian Entertainment Network, KaeMedia Network and other Nollywood creators.
Victory Michael Movies and Acting Career
Michael has built a growing filmography across romance, family drama and contemporary Nollywood stories. His credited productions include Forever Us, Crossed Lines, Our Little Secret, A Ride to Love, My Gatewoman, Karma Child, Act of Love, Sweet Revenge, Chef for Hire and Greener Lawn.
He also appeared in Family Fire and Driven by Love, two productions that helped increase his visibility among audiences who follow Nigerian online movies. Vanguard specifically listed Family Fire, Driven by Love, Act of Love and The Gateman among his notable performances.
His growing filmography shows how quickly he has moved from auditions and smaller opportunities into recurring roles in contemporary Nollywood productions. That progression makes his career particularly relevant to audiences searching for emerging Nigerian actors.
Unboxing Love and the 2026 Breakthrough
The biggest development in Michael’s career came in 2026 with Unboxing Love. He plays Big Mo in the film and received a Best Actor (International) nomination at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival. The official TINFF nomination list confirms his inclusion in the category.
Vanguard reported in July 2026 that the nomination represented Michael’s first-ever award nomination and described him as a fast-rising Nollywood actor. PUNCH also reported that the recognition marked his first international recognition since entering the industry.
The nomination also gave Michael an opportunity to reach audiences beyond Nigeria. The film was scheduled for its festival premiere in Toronto in September 2026, placing one of his performances within an international festival programme.
Victory Michael as Big Mike
The name Big Mike has become closely associated with Michael’s public identity as an entertainer. His professional profile describes him as an actor, writer and filmmaker, while also noting his background as a former professional boxer and fitness enthusiast.
His interest in several creative fields gives him a broader entertainment profile than acting alone. However, acting remains the clearest focus of his recent career, with his growing filmography and 2026 festival nomination providing the strongest evidence of his current rise.
Personal Life
Michael keeps much of his personal life away from his professional profile. Available interviews and profiles focus mainly on his acting journey, education, creative ambitions and entertainment career.
His public comments show a clear interest in building an international acting career while continuing to work within Nollywood. He has described the 2026 nomination as an important step toward reaching audiences outside Nigeria.
Why Victory Michael Is a Rising Nollywood Star
Victory Michael’s career has several markers of an emerging Nollywood talent. He entered professional acting recently, developed a growing list of film credits and secured an international festival nomination within a relatively short period.
His background also shows a gradual progression from school drama and comedy skits into filmmaking, auditions and professional acting. That path reflects the increasingly diverse ways new performers can enter Nigeria’s film industry.
The 2026 Best Actor (International) nomination for Unboxing Love now gives his career a significant new milestone. With more projects expected across Nigerian and international productions, Michael’s next stage will be worth following.
Conclusion
Victory Michael has moved from school drama and independent creative experiments into a growing Nollywood acting career. His performances in films such as Family Fire, Driven by Love and Act of Love helped build his early screen profile.
The 2026 Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival nomination for Unboxing Love represents his clearest breakthrough so far. As Big Mike continues developing his acting career, his progression from emerging performer to internationally recognised nominee gives audiences a strong reason to follow his journey.
