Jade Osiberu Biography
Jádesola Osiberu, widely known as Jade Osiberu, is a Nigerian writer, director, and producer whose work has helped shape contemporary Nollywood storytelling for both local and global audiences. As the founder of Greoh Studios, she has delivered films that blend commercial appeal with sharp observations of Nigerian life, from romantic comedies exploring social pressure to high-stakes crime dramas set in Lagos. Her projects, including Isoken, Sugar Rush, Brotherhood, and Gangs of Lagos, the first Nigerian original feature for Amazon Prime Video, have marked her as one of the industry’s most consistent and forward-looking voices.
Early Life and Background
Born on 18 August 1985 in Ibadan, Osiberu comes from a royal family in Ogun State. Her father, Oba Adewale Osiberu, is the Elepe of Epe Sagamu. She completed her secondary education in Ibadan before heading to the United Kingdom for university.
She studied Computer Systems Engineering at the University of Manchester. After graduating, she briefly worked as a software developer. The pull of storytelling, however, remained strong. She later enrolled at Pan-Atlantic University in Lagos, where she studied Media and Communications, formally shifting her focus toward the creative industries.
Upon returning fully to Nigeria, she spent time in digital marketing at a major bank. There she took on the role of building and running Ndani TV, a pioneering online video content platform. That experience gave her hands-on training in producing original web series and introduced her to the practical realities of creating content for Nigerian audiences.
Career Journey
Osiberu’s entry into filmmaking began in earnest through Ndani TV. She wrote, produced, and directed the web series Gidi Up (2013–2014), which followed a group of young Lagosians navigating ambition, friendship, and the pressures of city life. The series found a strong following among urban millennials and established her as a storyteller attuned to contemporary Nigerian experiences.
In 2017 she launched Tribe85 Productions with the clear aim of telling African stories for a wider audience. That same year she made her feature directorial debut with Isoken. The film follows a successful single woman dealing with family expectations around marriage and an unexpected interracial romance. Isoken earned critical attention and commercial success. At the 2018 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, Osiberu won Best Director. The film also received an Africa Movie Academy Award nomination in the same category.
She continued building momentum as a producer and writer. Sugar Rush (2019), a comedy-crime story she produced and co-wrote, became a box-office performer and further demonstrated her range. Later projects under her banner included Brotherhood (2022), a crime thriller that achieved a pan-African theatrical release and later won Best Movie West Africa at the 2023 AMVCAs.
A major milestone arrived with Gangs of Lagos (2023). Written and directed by Osiberu, the film was Amazon Prime Video’s first original Nigerian feature. Set in the Isale Eko area of Lagos, it explored themes of community, loyalty, and the cycles of violence that trap young people. The project reached the top ranks of Amazon’s global charts and signalled a new level of international visibility for Nollywood storytelling of this scale.
In September 2022, Greoh Studios signed a three-year overall deal with Amazon to develop and produce original scripted series and feature films. The partnership reinforced Osiberu’s position as a key creative partner for global platforms seeking authentic Nigerian content.
She followed with Christmas in Lagos (2024), a festive romantic comedy-drama released on Prime Video that captured the energy of Detty December in the city. The film continued her pattern of placing Lagos itself at the centre of the narrative, treating the city as both character and setting.
Notable Works and Achievements
Osiberu’s filmography reflects steady growth across genres. Key titles include:

Beyond individual titles, her work has drawn scholarly interest for its engagement with themes of feminism, social expectation, and modern Nigerian identity. In 2018 she headlined the Nollywood Film Festival in Scotland, further extending her reach beyond Nigeria.
Her production companies, first Tribe85 and later Greoh Studios, have become vehicles for larger-scale storytelling and for bringing Nigerian talent and crews into collaboration with international platforms.
Personal Life
Osiberu married on 11 May 2019 in a ceremony held in Sagamu, Ogun State. She has generally kept details of her private life out of the public spotlight. In late 2025 she announced the birth of her first child, a son named Moraraoluwa Jaiyeoba, born on 8 August 2025. In sharing the news she spoke of the journey to motherhood as deeply humbling and life-defining, describing it as a completion that arrived in her 40th year.
Off screen she remains closely associated with the work of building Greoh Studios and advocating for stronger industry practices, including conversations around shared risk and rewards for cast and crew.
Closing Thought
Jade Osiberu’s path from engineering graduate to one of Nollywood’s most reliable directors and producers shows what sustained focus and clear creative intention can achieve. She has moved from web series to theatrical features to global streaming originals without losing the specificity of Nigerian stories. Through Greoh Studios she continues to create space for those stories to reach wider audiences while remaining rooted in the realities of Lagos and beyond. Her body of work so far suggests there is still more to come.
